Queensgate Primary School visited the Musuem recently. Pupils created and completed a range of activities from coracle making to exploring the hidden landscapes off of the Isle Of Wight.

Museums & Schools Programme at the Shipwreck Centre & Maritime Museum.

Welcome to the Museums & Schools programme.

The Shipwreck Centre and Maritime Museum on the Isle of Wight offers an interactive Schools Programme, bringing maritime history to life through hands-on, curriculum-linked sessions.

For Key Stage 1 and 2, workshops include storytelling, craft activities, and real artefact handling, covering topics like pirates, explorers, and prehistory. Older students, including Key Stage 3 and beyond, explore the history of diving, protected wrecks around the Island and wartime history through engaging activities.

Held in our museum, home to one of the UK’s largest shipwreck artefact collections, sessions include practical experiments, simulated maritime challenges, and hands-on exploration. We also offer outreach visits and home-education workshops.

Ideal for history, STEM, and local heritage studies, our Schools Programme provides an unforgettable learning experience, sparking curiosity and deepening students’ understanding of maritime history.
